Q:
Are there any new plans that can help my business save money on health insurance?
A: The most important resource an employer can have is a knowledgeable and experienced full service broker. Before making any recommendations, we, at Orgill/Singer, will compile general information. As part of this process, we review and negotiate the flexibility of insurance carriers on plan design, rates, and quality of services.
In addition to traditional approaches of offering your employees an HMO, PPO or combinations of such plans, one popular approach is the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). With this type of plan, the insured is responsible for all eligible incurred expenses until the annual deductible is satisfied. The insured will lower out-of-pocket costs by utilizing in-network providers. However, a High Deductible Health Plan is not always the best choice for you and your business.
Another plan to consider is the Premium Only Plan also known as a POP. A POP provides tax savings for employers by helping to reduce payroll taxes, and for employees, by generally reducing net taxable income.
Q:
What is World Doc and how can it help my employees' insurance needs?
A: WorldDoc is a 24-hour, online health decision support service that will help patients take control of their personal health. Intended as a health and wellness benefit for small businesses, WorldDoc is a way for patients to answer confidential questions, gain resources for their medical needs, and basically assist them throughout the process before visiting a physician.
The site includes information from a vast array of specialties such as urology, ophthalmology, family practice, neurology, behavioral problems, internal medicine and dentistry, just to name a few. A team of board certified physicians compile and prepare the data for the site and an international medical team then evaluates that work for complete accuracy.
Once visitors log onto the site, they are greeted to the form of a “clickable” human body. Patients can click on a body part that is causing them distress. A series of questions are then put forth concerning symptoms and medical history, thus creating a profile. The computer will then suggest the three most likely medical conditions for the patient to choose from. Scripted in eighth grade reader-level language, WorldDoc offers a detailed evaluation of your ailment, an idea of home care treatments and over the counter care, as well as the latest in prescription drug care. Information is available on how to store the medicines, possible side effects, precautions, and how to properly take it.
The site can even ease fears of impending surgery. Video reels are available for download, so interested patients can see the intended surgery as it’s conducted with a doctor acting as guide to help explain each tool and process. Photographs are also featured to aid in visual understanding.
Wouldn't it be nice to have the flexibility to offer your employees healthcare costs that fit their specific needs?
Now you can. Orgill/Singer provides custom designed benefit packages that makes the difference in attracting and retaining good employees.
Life Insurance:
Life Insurance can replace the income from the family’s “bread winner,” from parent to child, husband to wife, sibling to sibling, as death in the family can devastate your financial security. Life Insurance can also help you cover the funeral expenses of the deceased.
Health Insurance:
Health Insurance is provided in two forms: Fee-for-Service and Managed Care. Fee-for-Service basically means that a patient can see any doctor/specialist they wish, and the insurance company will pay the doctor/specialist for each service provided.
Managed Care plans consist of three types: Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), and Point of Service Plans (POS). HMOs are organizations that provide a wide range of comprehensive health care services for a specified group for a fixed periodic prepayment. PPOs are a network of medical providers, which charge on a fee-for-service basis, but are paid on a negotiated, discounted fee schedule. A POS allows you to choose a doctor outside the specified network and still receive coverage, but the amount covered will be substantially less than if you went to a physician within your network.
Dental and Vision
There are a variety of Dental and Vision insurance plans, many of which include benefits for both.
Long Term Care
Long Term Care Insurance helps a person maintain a normal lifestyle as they age by aiding them with everyday tasks, like bathing or getting dressed, that they may no longer be able to perform by themselves. It also includes the type of care seniors may require if they had a cognitive impairment, such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Long Term Care Insurance can take place in a variety of settings, including your home, an assisted living facility or a nursing home.
Long and Short Term Disability
Disability Insurance is designed to replace lost income in the event you are unable to work due to accident or injury. Disability benefits will help to pay your mortgage or normal household expenses, but does not provide compensation for long term care expenses.
Employee Assistance Program
For an employee, personal problems can be the root of professional problems. An Employee Assistance Program can assist with a number of issues including stress management, drug and alcohol abuse, financial counseling, legal services, family/marital counseling, etc.
Workers Compensation Insurance:
In the case of work-related injuries or illnesses, you should secure an affordable Worker’s Compensation Policy for your employees. Laws for this type of policy varies by state, so check with your agent on the policy that is right for your employees.
